He received a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management with a major in Forestry from UNBC in 2000 and is a Registered Professional Forester.\u00a0 In 2021, he completed his Masters of Science in Natural Resource and Environmental Studies, having examined this impacts of forest management on plant community composition and forest structure in Spruce and Sub-alpine fir dominated stands. Colin has a special interests in geographic information systems, remote sensing (e.g. LiDAR), soils, and loves to spend time with his family, especially in the woods and mountains.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Ashley Sutherland RPF<br>Assistant Manager<br><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" class=\"wp-image-2341\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/P7042218.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/P7042218.jpg 580w, https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/P7042218-450x600.jpg 450w, https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/P7042218-180x240.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><br><br><\/td><td>Ashley started her forestry career in 2013 when she dipped her toes in to the wild world of forest technology at CNC, then moving on to UNBC in pursuit of a BSc. Her approach to forest management is fundamentally linked with her personal values, having a love of the natural environment and a firm belief that Mother Natural must be respected in every aspect of our lives. Outside of work, Ashley spends most spare moments with her animals, and enjoys any great adventure, be it a weekend road trip or long-haul travel.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>John Mainville FIT<br>Project Supervisor &amp; Extension Specialist<br><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DJI_20240314120707_0022_D-3.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/td><td>John graduated from UNBC in 2023 with a BSc in Forest Ecology and Management with a minor in Indigenous Ecological Knowledge. He joined the research forest as a Junior Intern in 2016 and as a Senior Intern in 2017, then returned in 2021 to 2024 to do video and documenting work. As of 2025, he is now the Project Supervisor and Extension Specialist. He is from the Anishinaabe community Couchiching First Nation but he also grew up in Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation in Ontario. These two communities is where he gained his knowledge and values of working with the forest that he learned from various family and friends.
