{"id":1874,"date":"2015-06-08T18:20:22","date_gmt":"2015-06-08T18:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/?p=1874"},"modified":"2015-06-08T18:32:34","modified_gmt":"2015-06-08T18:32:34","slug":"unbc-danger-tree-removals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/?p=1874","title":{"rendered":"UNBC &#8211; Danger Tree Removals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ALRF will be acting on behalf of <a title=\"UNBC Facilities \" href=\"http:\/\/www.unbc.ca\/facilities\" target=\"_blank\">UNBC Facilities<\/a> to remove trees that have been identified as dangerous.\u00a0 These trees are standing dead, diseased, or have otherwise been identified as unstable and could fall causing injury or property damage.<\/p>\n<p>June 8 and 10 crews will be operating around campus to selectively remove these trees.\u00a0\u00a0 many of the trees will be chipped and the chips will be used at the BioEnergy plant here on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the upcoming work includes some higher profile trees including:<\/p>\n<p>Aspens by the Administration Building<\/p>\n<p>A number of these trees pre-date the campus construction and unfortunately are now over-mature and the tops are dying.\u00a0 A number of these trees must be selectively removed for safety reasons.\u00a0 There are a number of younger trees which will maintain a stand of trees in this location \u2013 when these reach the end of their days there is another cohort already filling in behind them.\u00a0 Some of the branches may be mulched and broadcast on site.\u00a0 The larger pieces will be chipped and \u2018recycled\u2019 as heat through the Bioenergy plant.<\/p>\n<p>Spruce to the south of the Administration Building<\/p>\n<p>The very large spruce tree near the south entrance to the Administration Building is due for an assessment, and quite possibly will have to be removed this spring.\u00a0 It has been monitored for the past several years and unfortunately the top die-back has been advancing and there is now a significant danger both to persons and the building.<\/p>\n<p>Should you have any questions regarding these activities please contact Colin Chisholm of the Aleza Lake Research Forest at 250-960-6338 or colin.chisholm@unbc.ca<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ALRF will be acting on behalf of UNBC Facilities to remove trees that have been identified as dangerous.\u00a0 These trees are standing dead, diseased, or have otherwise been identified as unstable and could fall causing injury or property damage.
