{"id":725,"date":"2010-05-10T16:16:19","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T23:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.unbc.ca\/~aleza\/?p=725"},"modified":"2010-05-10T16:16:19","modified_gmt":"2010-05-10T23:16:19","slug":"tiny-forest-emerges-in-greenhouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/?p=725","title":{"rendered":"Tiny Forest Emerges in Greenhouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/images\/EFL seedlings april_27_2010_001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"307\" \/>Our \u00a0seedlings are now over 4 months old! \u00a0Planted just before Christmas, the Western larch are a whopping 8 inches tall and the grow lights have been reduced before they are planted in early June.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/images\/EFL seedlings april_27_2010 006.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/> \u00a0The Western yellow cedar are showing their secondary growth &#8211; actual cedar leaves! They are still under the grow lights and will continue to \u00a0live in the greenhouse until they are ready to plant this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Both sets of trees are growing in the greehouse attached to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unbc.ca\/efl\/\" target=\"_blank\">UNBC&#8217;s Enhance Forestry Laboratory<\/a>. If the climate change predictions are accurate, these species should grow very well here in the future, but the question is how \u00a0well can these species survive in the short-term?
