It has appeared within the last 12 months and currently measures more than 180cm tall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Marsh plume thistle (<em>Cirsium palustre)<\/em>, listed as a noxious weed in BC&#8217;s Central Interior by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.invasiveplantcouncilbc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Invasive Plant Council of BC<\/a>, \u00a0is \u00a0showing it&#8217;s \u00a0presence in ALRF&#8217;s harvest areas. The plant grows in moist locations and competes with native plants and crop trees. A containment program for this purple-flowered plant is currently underway in the Central Interior aimed at preventing \u00a0its expansion. According to the IPCBC \u00a0the most effective way to \u00a0limit the spread of the species is \u00a0by \u00a0cutting the plants \u00a0down before they go to seed. Other methods such \u00a0as biological controls and herbicides are in development.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, several harvest areas on the Research Forest were surveyed for invasive plants and several \u00a0species were found in varying quantities.
