This is by no means \u00a0your basic \u00a0field skills training. \u00a0It is an advanced level, 3rd year course where students \u00a0are pushed \u00a0to apply their university training to address real-life, diverse, complex, and sometimes contentious natural resource management problems.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 327px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" src=\"http:\/\/alrf.unbc.ca\/wp-content\/images\/2010_FieldCamp2.jpg\" alt=\"Biologist Jesse LaFramboise\" width=\"327\" height=\"235\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Biologist Jesse LaFramboise of DWB Consulting Services, Prince George, uses Hansard Creek to explain the importance of assessing and protecting stream habitat for sustainable forest management and road development.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students are taught through hands-on \u00a0modules (from \u00a02 to 4 per day) \u00a0led by \u00a0both faculty and \u00a0natural resource practitioners ranging from forestry to guide-outfitting to mining. And it&#8217;s not all about hard science either, students are taught soft skills including concepts in multi-stakholder consensus-building and the social and spiritual importance of the environment to First Nations people. The UNBC students themselves represent several disciplines including Forestry, Environmental Science and Biology Majors, which promotes peer-learning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">This week the students wrap up thier 2-week intensive educational journey at the <a href=\"http:\/\/researchforest.unbc.ca\/jprf\/jprf.htm\" target=\"_blank\">John Prince Research Forest <\/a>where they will assemble all their learning to address \u00a0year&#8217;s case study project \u00a0theme: &#8220;Boundary Issues&#8221;<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors learn in teaching hospitals&#8230; natural resource managers learn in the woods.
