Mike Jull MSc, RPF Co-Manager |
Mike is one of two co-managers of the Aleza Lake Research Forest. Mike graduated in the Forest Resource Management program from the Faculty of Forestry at UBC in 1983 and is a Registered Professional Forester. He also received his Master of Sciences degree in Silviculture from UBC in 1990, where his work investigated growth and management of Interior BC subalpine mountain forests. Mike has been involved in forest management throughout most of the BC Interior and the north for about 25 years. Mike is originally a native of Vancouver, and he has lived with his family in Prince George since 1990. |
Colin Chisholm MSc, RPF Co-Manager |
Colin started working for the research forest in 2012 and is the second co-manager. He received a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management with a major in Forestry from UNBC in 2000 and is a Registered Professional Forester. In 2021, he completed his Masters of Science in Natural Resource and Environmental Studies, having examined this impacts of forest management on plant community composition and forest structure in Spruce and Sub-alpine fir dominated stands. Colin has a special interests in geographic information systems, remote sensing (e.g. LiDAR), soils, and loves to spend time with his family, especially in the woods and mountains. |
Ashley Sutherland, RPF Assistant Manager |
Ashley started her forestry career in 2013 when she dipped her toes in to the wild world of forest technology at CNC, then moving on to UNBC in pursuit of a BSc. Her approach to forest management is fundamentally linked with her personal values, having a love of the natural environment and a firm belief that Mother Natural must be respected in every aspect of our lives. Outside of work, Ashley spends most spare moments with her animals, and enjoys any great adventure, be it a weekend road trip or long-haul travel. |
John Mainville, FIT Project Supervisor and Extension Specialist |
John graduated from UNBC in 2023 with a BSc in Forest Ecology and Management with a minor in Indigenous Ecological Knowledge. He joined the research forest as a Junior Intern in 2016 and as a Senior Intern in 2017, then returned in 2021 – 2024 to do video and documenting work. As of 2025, he is now the Project Supervisor and Extension Specialist. He is from the Anishinaabe community Couchiching First Nation but he also grew up in Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation in Ontario. These two communities is where he gained his knowledge and values of working with the forest that he learned from various family and friends. John loves spending time with his family and teaching his kids about plant technologies and medicines. |
